Some Closing Tips Verna Acker, CRS

Closing TipsClosing Tips...
...I heard the story of a buyer's attorney the other day. He walked into the closing and said to his clients, "This is not a negotiation session. Sign the papers." This may be an exaggeration, but it rings of reality. If you are going to read everything you sign, either get your documents in advance or forewarn the closing agents. They can schedule you a couple hours for the reading. You get what you want and courtesy, too.
Arrange for utilities to be transferred if you are getting occupancy at closing.
Bring your driver's license. A notary requires photo identification.
Bring money... In the form of a cashiers check, made out to yourself. You will endorse the check over at closing.
Allow time to get your cashier's check. Often the exact figure you must bring is not known until shortly before the closing.
Bring your good faith estimate with you. It will help pinpoint any possible discrepancy.
Don't forget to order Home Owners insurance. Bring a paid receipt or a binder.

Check back often for ongoing information...
