Lead Paint Information Verna Acker, CRS

Lead PaintWhat Should the Buyer and Seller Know about Lead Paint...
...If you are buying or selling a home built before 1978, it is possible that lead paint is present on the premises. Lead paint poses a possible health hazard if handled incorrectly. Lead paint was used almost universally in homes pre-1950's, and used in lesser degrees in the 60's and 70's. It was banned for use in homes in 1978. Sellers and lessors of most residential properties built before 1978 must disclose the presence of known lead paint/hazards in the house. Sellers and lessors must provide buyers and lessees with any available records pertaining to the presence of lead paint/hazards. Specific language is required for disclosure and acknowledgment. For a copy of the regulations and information - go to http://www.epa.gov/lead/index.html. For a current fact sheet on lead poisoning, visit the National Safety Council's Fact Sheet Library at: http://www.nsc.org/ehc/lead.htm
