WIND LAKE...
Wind Lake is just east of Hwy 36 and is the focal point of the "spot-in-the-road" called Wind Lake. The lake has a surface area of 936 acres and a maximum depth of 47 feet. It is a drainage lake with an inlet on the NE side and an outlet on the south side to the Fox River. The shoreline is entirely private except for state access and is about 25% wetland, mostly along the east shore. About 1/2 of the basin is less than 3' deep. The bottom is about 53% muck. Sand and gravel make up most of the rest. The water is relatively infertile and fairly murky. Wind lake is abundant with panfish, especially croppie. Gamefish are present and quality walleye are available. The Wind Lake Management District is active and constantly working for the good of the district. The lake has a nice blend of small, reasonable properties, along with high end homes in the $300,000 range.
